The FL-400 in its inception, was fundamental in our belief to provide the end user with the best commercial doors on the market. This unique flush plank door, created over forty years ago, would one day pass category 1 blast tests undamaged.
These doors were created with an aluminum extrusion interlock every four inches. Aluminum extrusions have 4 times the yield and tensile strength of aluminum sheets allowing these doors to be built in custom sizes. In fact, these doors have been built up to 20' tall in some of the most grueling environments in the world.
These commercial doors are structurally rigid yet flexible in design. A rough and tough door design used on the front of office facilities and schools. The glazing capabilities, along with no need for through-bolting hardware, allow this door to be installed anywhere on a building faCade.
St. Joseph High School, located in St. Joseph, Michigan, on the shores of Lake Michigan; was designed by Hebard & Hebard Architects, S. Bend, Indiana. The glass & glazing contractor was J.W. Werntz and Son, Inc., S. Bend, IN.
This project consisted of a major renovation and up-grade of the existing high school; creating an attractive learning environment for the student, staff, and community. The design choices utilized Cross Aluminum Products custom fabrication abilities to create entrances with structural integrity, durability, and low maintenance. A champagne anodized finish was chosen for the entrance, to accent other colorful custom features of the building, such as the roof canopy. Thus, providing an inviting eye appeal entering the main foyer and office area.
Cross Aluminum Products fabricated the entrance utilizing our WS-500 series heavy duty stile & rail custom doors and frame systems. To facilitate speed and accuracy of field installation, much of the frame was delivered to the job site intact. Cross Aluminum factory installed much of the hardware, provided by others, to guarantee hardware location and accuracy, allowing for less field labor time for the glass & glazing contractor.
The result is a beautiful main entrance to St. Joseph high school, that should stand the test of time, for years to come.
