Flood Barriers, Watertight Doors and Hatches

Walz & Krenzer supplied watertight doors that now protect 4 tunnels on Manhattan. Each gate was approximately 30’ wide x 15’ tall and weighs approximately 50,000 lbs. The work was part of the “Sandy” Recovery Project for the MTA Bridges and Tunnels team. Walz & Krenzer worked with Judlau Construction and Integrated Structures in the field, Arcadis on the design side, while fabrication was completed at Wolf Hills Fabricators in Virginia.
