** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Only Hot-dipped galvanized, aluminum, and stainless steel fasteners should be used to fasten Western Red Cedar Siding. Stainless steel fasteners are preferred. Hot-dipped galvanized is most widely used and economical. For most applications, No. 304 (18-8) grade stainless steel provides adequate corrosion resistance. For decks exposed to salt air, use No. 316 grade. Other types of fasteners, such as electro-plated, can rust, disintegrate, and react adversely with the natural preservatives present in cedar, resulting in stains and streaks.

Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly constructed and prepared.
If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect in writing of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
PREPARATION
Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
Scribe and cope siding boards for accurate fit.
Select siding boards of longest possible lengths. Discard boards that are warped, twisted, bowed, crooked or otherwise defective.
INSTALLATION
Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, approved submittals, and in proper relationship with adjacent construction.
Install products according to Western Red Cedar Lumber Association installation guidelines and with adherence to local building codes and regulations where the Project is located.
Follow installation instructions specified in the Western Red Cedar Lumber Association's Installing Cedar Siding publication.
Finish materials on all sides and ends. Apply touch up coating on new cuts.
Factory primed or finishing is preferred.
FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
Field Inspection: Coordinate field inspection in accordance with appropriate sections in Division 01.
